05.03.2021 - News that the UK Government is to accelerate its funding for the Mid Wales Growth Deal has been welcomed by the region's leaders.

News that the UK Government is to accelerate its funding for the Mid Wales Growth Deal has been welcomed by the region's leaders.

Last December, both the UK and Welsh Governments backed the 15-year growth deal with a £55m investment each.

The UK Government announced on Wednesday, 3 March that it will accelerate its share of funding for the Mid Wales Growth Deal, which will see deal receive £5.5m per year from 2021/22 for ten years instead of £3.66m per year over 15 years.

Leaders of the Growing Mid Wales Partnership, Councillors Ellen ap Gwynn and Rosemarie Harris, said: "We welcome the acceleration in funding from the UK Government for the Mid Wales Growth Deal.

"Not only does this reinforce the UK Government's commitment to the growth deal and the region but it will lead to faster investment once projects are agreed.

"This is a very positive development and we look forward to further discussions with our colleagues in the UK and the Welsh Governments as well as key partners in the months ahead as we start to work on delivering this growth deal and support the region's economy."
